acne drugWhen other drugs are not effective anymore, isotretinoin is often the ultimate weapon to deal with acne stone. However, in some teenagers, these medicines can trigger side effects reported in the form of intestinal inflammation.

Inflammatory bowel disease that occur during the actual acne drugs are very rare. But some teenagers in America reported experiencing it after receiving treatment with isotretinoin to overcome acne tablets of stone.

Type of colitis is commonly experienced in Crohn’s Disease, causes digestive problems such as pain around the abdomen, diarrhea is very severe to less nutrition. Crohn’s Disease can be treated with antiinflammatory drugs, but to have a severe intestinal condition that must be dissected.

In a publication in the American Journal of Gastroenterology, some researchers speculate that these side effects are also associated with previous antibiotic use. For the acne stones, generally the patient has received antibiotics for months before given isotretinoin.

These allegations did not miss. In observations of 94 000 adolescents breakouts, the risk of colitis after receiving the antibiotic tetracycline derivatives rose 0.26 percent, 0.21 percent doxycycline, minocycline 0.17 percent while that has never received antibiotics only 0.14 percent.

Dr. David Margolis, a dermatologist who led the study urged more research related to these findings. It is not possible colitis is associated with the acne itself, not just a side effect of treatment.

“Side effects are very rare, but physicians should remain cautious and pay attention to this possibility if you want to prescribe isotretinoin in patients with acne stone,” said Dr David
