Most people just use it when having canker sores, or feel the breath was not tasty. Whereas, gargling with mouthwash every day can improve your dental health, you know. Maria Lopez Howell, DDS, a dentist who is also spokesperson for the American Dental Association, explains why.

1. Rinsing the teeth with mouthwash can prevent plaque. Too much plaque can cause cavities and gum disease. However, mouthwashes will not eliminate or reduce existing plaque.

2. Gargling with mouthwash containing fluoride can help prevent cavities. This material protects the teeth from damage (resulting in tooth decay) or decay. For that, look at the packaging label to make sure the drug is equipped with a fluoride mouthwash.

3. Mouthwash can help you target the plaques that want to be eradicated. Areas where there are many plaques will change to blue so you can focus on these areas when brushing your teeth or using dental floss.

Once you eat certain, change will occur in the mouth.

Bacteria in the mouth change the sugar from food into acids. Furthermore, this acid will attack the tooth enamel layer and start the process of destruction. The more often you eat and snack, the more frequently teeth are exposed to this cycle.

Food and beverages for a healthy mouth

The best foods to maintain oral health, including cheese, chicken or other types of meat, beans, and nuts milk. This food is believed to protect the tooth enamel layer by providing calcium and phosphorus. Both minerals are needed to replace missing teeth eroded mineral acid.

Other healthy food choices is a crunchy fruits (like apples and pears) and vegetables. This water-rich foods, which will dilute the effect of sugar from food and stimulate saliva flow (protects from damage by lifting the food particles and dilute acids).

Bad choice

Poor food choices include candy (like lollipop, hard candy, and mint), cakes, pies, breads, muffins, potato chips, fries, pineapple, raisins, and other dried fruits. These foods contain sugar in large numbers and tend to stick to the teeth, providing food for bacteria.

Besides food, there is also a good idea considering the use of cough syrup. Just as the sweets sugary, syrup is also triggered by tooth decay erodes tooth enamel layer with sugar.

Sugar-free substitute products

Sugar substitutes looks and feels like sugar. However, this indigestible sugar substitute in a different way. That way, the bacteria in the mouth does not produce acid causes damage. Sugar substitutes include erythritol, isomalt, sorbitol, mannitol, saccharin, acesulfame potassium, and Sucralose.

Foods without sugar or sugar free does not mean the food is added sugar in the manufacturing process. However, it does not mean these foods do not contain natural sweeteners, like honey, fructose, or corn syrup. Just like sugar, natural sweetener also contain calories and can damage teeth.

To determine whether sugar-free food you buy contains a natural sweetener, check the label before buying.

Chewing gum

Chewing gum, low-sugar or sugar free are basically good for the teeth. The process of chewing helps remove food particles stuck between your teeth and increase the flow of saliva to neutralize acids in the mouth. Chewing gum containing sugar substitute xylitol even otherwise reduce the risk of cavities.
